Demolition Racer

Demolition Racer is a racing game with a twist. Rather than a game that just requires you to try and win the race, this game gives you points to destroy the other racers' cars. The game has many styles of game play so you don't have to play the same style each game.

There are 5 game styles in the Single Race section of the game. This section does not count towards unlocking cars or tracks. It is for practice and just plain fun. The main style is Demolition.

In Demolition, you race against other cars around the track and get points for hitting them, spinning them in circles and knocking them into the wall. You also get a big bonus for landing on top of a car which will immediately destroy the car. When you finish the race, your final position is found by multiplying the points you got from hitting the other cars with the points that you got for the position you finished in. So if you finish first, but never hit anyone, you won't win the race.

The next style is The Chase. This style is your normal race game. You can still take damage and so can the other cars, but you are only trying to win the race. You don't get any points for hitting the other cars.

Chicken is another style. It is the same as The Chase except that you drive in the opposite direction as everyone else. This can slow you down when you run into the cars coming around from the other direction.

The next 2 game styles aren't done on race tracks. They are done in an arena. This is a circle area which may have hills in it where you just try to destroy cars. The first of these is Last Man Standing. In this style, you try to destroy every car without being destroyed yourself. You can still win if you aren't the last car by making a lot of points by hitting other cars. The scoring is calculated the same as the Demolition style.

The final Single Race style is Suicide. In this style, you try to destroy yourself before any others are destroyed. You don't get any points for hitting other cars in this style.

Besides the Single Race, there is also League Racing. In League racing, you are trying to beat a set of tracks. There are 4 leagues on tracks and one league in the arena. In order to beat a track (or arena), you must place in a certain position. The first league starts out easy; you can finish in 5th place and still beat the track and go on to the next one. However, as you go up in difficulty of leagues, you will eventually have to place 1st on every track in the league to beat it. A league will usually have 5-10 tracks to beat.

After you beat a league, you will unlock cars, tracks and other leagues. There are 11 tracks, 3 arenas and 8 cars that you can get. The cars can be customized with colors and logos. You can also have portraits of the racers on top of the cars.

Your goal is to prove yourself worthy of being admitted to Mount Olympus, the residence of gods, and to become a god yourself. You must commit heroic deeds and overcome various obstacles to show your strength and courage. Hades, the overlord of the dead, is making it even more difficult for you by sending fearsome Titans to stop you.

This is a 2D platform action game. Hercules can jump, grab ledges, swing on poles, and jump while running. He has a variety of attack moves at his disposal. He can execute a basic attack with his sword, or pull out different combo attacks. He can also Power Punch enemies, but he needs time to charge for this powerful attack. He can even slam the ground to reveal secret areas by performing a certain move while jumping. There are also different power-ups to collect, such as coins to grant bonus points at the end of the level, Hercules Action Figures to increase your hero rating, and upgrades to your sword - Sonic, Lightning, and Fireball swords.

Fatal Racing

Fatal Racing (released as Whiplash in the USA by Interplay a year later) is one of the best stunt car racing games ever made. In many ways a spiritual successor to Geoff Crammond's underrated Stunt Car Racer, Fatal Racing offers high-resolution graphics, great selection of fantastical tracks, and excellent multiplayer options.

The basic plot outline of Fatal Racing (if anyone expects such an archaic thing in a racing game) goes as follows: eight major car manufacturers agree to race against each other in a championship competition. Each company (all of which are fictional) supplies one car and two different tracks. These tracks are definitely the most impressive feature of the game, as they take the courses of Hard Drivin' to the next level. Each track features its own nasty features, including loops, corkscrews, twister jumps (hit them at the right speed or end up with the roof of the car scraping on the ground!), crossovers, loopscrews, and much, much more. This variety of a nasty physics really adds to the game, and sets it apart from other title.

Gameplay mechanics in Fatal Racing is fairly standard. Gas, brake, shift up, shift down, steer left, and steer right are all used in their most basic form. Beyond that, a variety of view-points can be selected during the game. Network and modem play are possibilities for those willing to put the time into setting games up, and a split screen two player version is available. Although Gremlin received a lot of criticisms for very bad lags in SVGA games (and low framerates in general), this should no longer be a problem for today's Pentiums. Other features worth noting include the ability to change the damage levels of colliding cars (which begin to smoke and flame when banged up), six difficulty levels, turning engine damage on and off, and the options to replay and edit video clips of past races.

Don't let the game's friendly interface and great graphics fool you, though-- this is NOT an easy game. On the "medium" skill setting you'll rarely finish higher than 13th place, thanks to impeccable driving techniques of computer players. For an added level of strategy, you can race in teams of two, and you can send simple orders to your computer-controlled or real-life partner such as "Take out other drivers." This feature makes co-operative multiplayer games a lot of fun, as you and your partner take turns doing each other's biddings. Overall, Fatal Racing is an excellent action-oriented racing game with plenty of choices. Smart AI, fantastical tracks, and multiplayer options will keep arcade fans busy for days on end. It may not rival EA's famed Need for Speed in terms of realism or graphics, but for white-knuckled adrenaline rush of racing through loops and corkscrews, Fatal Racing is hard to beat. Two thumbs up!

Your goal is to build a skyscraper that is both tall, aethestically pleasing, popular, and, most importantly, economically profitable. To be successful, your building cannot just be levels upon levels of officespace, or just an apartment sky-rise, but a multi-functional haven for humanity featuring everything from penthouses to theatres, restaurants to shopping malls. The centerpiece of your tower design is your elevators and proper managment is the key.

You can watch your Sims enter and leave your grand tower, getting impatient waiting for elevators, or having a hectic work day at the office. You can even train in on one or two, to server as a metering stick for their compatriots, or just to peek into the average workday of the little people living in your building. Or watch the security and resuce crews race as distasters like bomb threats and fires rampage through your well-crafted skyscraper.

Master of Defense

Master Of Defense is a wonderful strategy game that lets you assume the role of a brave hero, who has been chosen to save the ancient kingdom from the hordes of monsters. The challenge of the game is to ward off relentless attacks of monsters and prevent them from capturing people in your castle.

You do this by building towers on the way of the hordes and casting spells. Defeating monsters yields rewards.
You get rewarded for every killed monster and gain a bonus at the end of each attack. To improve your winning chances, you must invest into building new towers and upgrading the old ones in order to increase their firepower, fire speed and range.

For all its seeming simplicity, Master Of Defense is fun to play and doesn’t grow stale in a short while. You will discover 5 diversely-themed locations and a wide array of monster types. Creatures range from big-headed thingies to mutated animals to flying insect-like monsters. Wave after wave they become stronger, faster and take more efforts to stop.

Hexen II

Ken Silverman's Build engine is the basis for what was possibly the goriest first-person shooter ever made up to this time. The environment is fully interactive, with moving floors and active vehicles. Destruction of landscapes is possible, and bullet holes being left by misplaced shots. The Build engine is 2.5D, so there are rooms above rooms and puzzles which are based on this.

People explode violently when taken out, to the point that you can use a zombie's head like a football. Impaled victims can be found lying around, and people die in different ways depending on how they are attacked and in which part of their body.

Car Thief 6: Night Life

You are a criminal and earn your living on a car theft. One day, you've found yourself deep in debt to the local loan sharks. You have to show the best of you, steal as many cars as possible and sell them to the dealer to repay it. If you won't do it in time, the loan shark's thugs will come after you. And don't forget to watch the cops, they are your main trouble. Your fun is guaranteed!

You win the game when you clear up your debt and leave off your illegal business before you get to a prison or killed. The more cash you have in the end, the more score you gain.

This is a sequel to the Car Thief game. Yet more equipment to use, yet more non-player characters to talk with, yet more auto-generated quests, yet more ways to steal a car! Hexen: Beyond Heretic

Hexen is the sequel to Heretic. While the Heretic was destroying D'Sparil, the other two Serpent Riders have come to your dimension and slaughtered everyone. Or so they thought. Three humans have managed to escape with their lives and now seek vengeance against the Serpent Rider Korax who remains in their world.

Like Heretic, Hexen is a fantasy game based on an enhanced Doom engine. All of Heretic's innovations like vertical looking, flying, and the inventory system have been carried over. The new major changes this time around are three characters for the player to choose from and the level hub system. The characters are the Fighter, the Cleric, and the Mage. Each one has four unique weapons and different levels of speed and armor.

The hub system steps away from the traditional "single levels stringed along into episodes" system which had been carried over into the FPS genre from sidescrollers and made popular by Wolfenstein 3D. In Hexen's hub system each episode is still made up of interconnected levels, but most of the levels are connected to a single "hub" level through portals. There are also portals between some of the "spoke" levels. Many of the puzzles in Hexen require travel back and forth between different levels.

Other innovations in Hexen included weather effects, jumping, earth-quakes, and destructable objects such as trees and vases.

Matt Tucker became famous as a master criminal, he was good at breaking and entering and others knew this too. Because of this, the police set up an elaborate trap and put Matt away to prison for several years. Now Matt's time has been served, and he returns penniless to a city that has changed while he was gone. Luckily he still has a couple of friends who can help him out, and as for the rest of it: burglary is like riding a bike, you never quite forget...

The Sting is a crime adventure/sim, played with an overhead view (though there is a first person view toggle). Starting out, Matt Tucker has been reduced to a small-time "hood" who must scout out locations that might be good to steal from. There are different shops such as the Hardware Store and the Pawn shop as well as taxis to take him between locations. Matt will meet different shady characters who can act as accomplices on his different heists... in exchange for a cut of course. Each of these persons will have different proficiencies at different tasks, as well as a different weight. Matt must also be sure to choose a vehicle that is fast enough and able to store enough to make the robbery worthwhile.

All this planning is done from Matt's apartment where actions and movements are carefully laid out, before going "live" to find out if the plan works or if everyone has gotten caught. Different locations can include patrolling guards and police, security systems, locked doors and cabinets and other obstacles. At the same time, Matt's different tools are useful in different situations as well as making different levels of noise. As Matt successfully completes a string of robberies, his reputation in the underworld goes up and skills improve, allowing him to take harder and harder jobs, all the way up to a masterpiece Sting! against the mysterious Ministry of Light which runs the city.

Zuma is an Aztec-themed action puzzler. The goal: eliminate all the balls before they reach the skull. Balls roll down a track towards this skull, and your frog-shaped idol must shoot balls toward them to stop them. Using the mouse to rotate the frog and clicking to fire, you need to create rows of three or more of the same color balls to eliminate them.

The catch is that each track is shaped differently. Part of the track may block others so that if the track is filled with balls, the ones behind some may be unreachable. Fortunately, you have up to four lives, a rarity in many puzzle games.

Initially there are 5 tracks available, with practice and single race modes as well as full championship at 3 levels - winning each of the first 2 levels unlocks an extra track. They all have hazards running through them, and sections where you must make a split-second choice between the safer route and the risky but potentially rewarding one. Multiplayer can be done via network or by split-screen - in a break with convention the screen is split vertically rather than horizontally.

Sega Rally was a major success in the arcades, bringing rally-style racing to the masses before the Colin McRae games. Four detailed tracks have been created, with a succession of stomach-churning bends and jumps, and you can choose from 3 different cars. As well as the main championship, there is a time-trial mode featuring a ghost car to beat, so you always know how your run compares with your best-ever. Two machines can be linked for multi-player action. The handling of the cars is unrealistic, to put the focus on action and instant playability.

BHunter

BHunter is set in 2098 where law and order are rapidly crumbling and the city has turned to enlisting the help of BHunters to help curb crime. As a BHunter, it is your job to deal justice swiftly to designated criminal targets. The action takes place in one of three flying cars selectable at the start of the game. You rove around in a fully 3D cityscape, a maze of tall buildings (above which you are forbidden to fly because of a force field) while hunting down criminals. Destroy the bad guys with your basic ship's weapons and gain more powerful weapons as the game progresses. You are rewarded with credits for successfully taking down targets. However, don't run afoul of the law or you will be subject to fines that will siphon off that hard-earned currency.

BHunter also features networked gameplay for up to 8 players via a LAN or the internet.

Laser Squad: Nemesis

The sequel to the original Laser Squad focuses entirely on 1vs1 tactical combat. Units from four different races can be selected: The Human Marines, the artificial Machina, the mysterious Grays and the aggressive Spawn.

At the beginning of a game, units are deployed, each with a different cost of force points. Once deployed, orders will be issued (and tested) each turn. Concluding the turns of all players, the game then "go live" for 10 seconds, wherein all orders are played out and the results determined. Each player is given a variety of movement options, such as stances and stances, such as whether to halt, retreat or continue moving when an enemy is spotted. There are options for direct fire, terrain fire and opportunity fire. The progress of the battle can be reviewed at any time using the VCR-style controls.

Laser Squad can be played as single player campaigns or a hotseat game. Internet gameplay is based on a per-month subscription, with 3 months being included out of the box.

In this side-scrolling action platformer, you control the Pink Panther in his quest to find hidden treasures. You'll be travelling through colorful 3D environments and themes including Medieval, Underwater and Outer Space.

Many zany objects and gadgets can be found along the way to help you reach your objectives. You'll be using lampshades, paint, fire extinguishers, magnets and even bowling balls. Disguise yourself, blend into the background, disarm traps and fight off enemies.

With the exception of the controls specific to each platform, the gameplay is the same in all.
